90 Minute Workshop Series

Facilitating services for traumatised children, which are a ‘TAD’ © informed: i.e. Therapeutic Services which are Trauma Informed; Attachment and ACES aware and which recognise and address Dissociation.

Abstract

Trauma is often a consequence of adverse childhood experiences – ACES, including neglect and abuse. Trauma frequently results in dissociation in children and it interrupts the attachment process.

This workshop will look at levels of child dissociation in children who have suffered trauma, referred to two therapeutic agencies in the UK – one an adoption support agency and the other a post sexual abuse service. Preliminary data is being collated with a view to conducting more comprehensive research in future. The focus of the workshop will then be on the presentation of clinical case studies in order to explore theory, practice and ways to assist the child who is a ‘TAD’ © troubled.
