Exploring and Understanding The Role Of Therapeutic Parenting For Traumatised Children

Abstract

Within this workshop we will with look to enable participants to develop knowledge and understanding of ‘Therapeutic Parenting’, a unique parenting style used to help support, nurture and repair the negative impact trauma has on a child(ren).

Key elements include education around the impact of trauma on the developing brain and the implications it has on a child’s ability to form secure attachments.

We will explore the origins of Therapeutic Parenting, discovering the importance of a ‘therapeutic’ parent(s) in the lives of traumatised children, promoting a more cohesive support system around the child.

We will explore the core conditions of Therapeutic Parenting and enable participants to develop a breath of ‘tools for their tool boxes’ to aid regulation, relating and repair within everyday interactions with traumatised children.

Completing this workshop with enable participants to add depth to their work in practice and would appeal to professionals within the field of working with traumatised children and/or those supporting the families of traumatised children.

Biography

Amy Daroux
I’ve been working within the therapeutic arena for fifteen years, graduating from Warwick University in 2005 as a Person Centred Counsellor/Psychotherapist and have since gone on to achieve BACP Accreditation and a Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People.

I’ve an extensive background of working with children, young people and adults. Working with individuals whom present with a range of issues such as Trauma, Dissociation, Anxiety and Depression.

I provide individual therapy, Therapeutic Parenting Support for carers of children impacted by trauma and dissociation as well as Well-Being Supervision for professionals working within education in a pastoral capacity.
